After several years of research and development Sunland Shutters successfully mastered the fine art of co-extrusion, combining PVC and an aluminum core. Today we are the only solid synthetic company that is vertically integrated, whereas we extrude, paint, fabricate, and distribute our Polycore shutter. All of our rails, stiles, and louvers are reinforced with an aluminum core. In the fabrication process we screw the rail and stile together with two 3/16” X 3” self tapping screws in each corner of the panels. These corners prevent the panels from racking, thus creating the strongest panels in the industry today. The aluminum reinforced louvers prevent sagging in wider panels, where Polycore can reach 36” in width.

Step 1.

Measuring your window:

Let's start by determining if you want to do an Inside Mount, Z-Frame, Outside Mount or Outside Mount on a French Door.

More specifically, do you want the shutter to mount recessed within your window opening, known as an "Inside Mount", OR outside the window opening on the trim (if any) or directly on the wall, known as an "Outside Mount". We usually recommend an Outside Mount, because windows are generally not perfectly square and Outside Mount shutters are more forgiving. Also keep in mind that if you have less than 1½" of depth it must be an Outside Mount because the louvers would not rotate open if the depth is too shallow. French Doors are always done as an Outside Mount.

All shutters with lengths greater than 60" must have a center divider rail installed.

Be sure to always measure the exact width and height of your window opening down to the nearest eighth of an inch.

For an Inside Mount you will need to measure the width and height in three places and make sure you use the SMALLEST measured width and height for each.

For an Outside Mount you will need approximately 2" of flat space all the way around the window for the frame to attach to the wall or trim. To determine the size needed, measure the exact overall width and height of the framed size needed. This size will be the overall size from outside edge of frame to outside edge of frame.

Determine if your window sill protrudes (for Outside Mounts only):

Now check to see if you have a window sill that protrudes out into the room. This will determine how your shutter's frame is designed. If you do not have a window sill that protrudes into the room then you can do a simple 4 sided L-Frame or Z-Frame (see frame styles below). If your window sill does protrude into the room then you will need to order a 3-Sided Frame with sill plate. This is still a 4-Sided frame but the bottom portion is made to rest on the sill where the other three sides wrap around the outside of the window opening.

What is your Window Depth? (for Inside Mounts only):

Measure from the front edge of your drywall (or trim) surrounding your window opening back to the first obstruction. This could be a handcrank, security device, ledge, or the window itself. Note whether this distance is 1½" or more. If so, you can select an Inside Mount. If not, that means the depth is not sufficient enough for the louvers to be able to rotate open without obstruction.

Does your window tilt into the room? (for Inside Mounts only):

This info is needed for Inside Mounts only. If you have the type of window that tilts in for cleaning and you ordered an Inside Mount the frame of the shutter would obstruct the window from tilting in making it impossible to clean or remove second or third story windows. We recommend using an Outside Mount for these applications.

Determine if you need/want a Divider Rail:

Divider rails add strength to your shutters, and allow you to operate the top louvers independently from the bottom louvers. Note: Center line location of divider rails may vary up or down by a maximum of 1 1/2" on 3 1/2" louvers. Window openings greater than or equal to 60" must have divider rail.

If Shutter is going to have a Divider Rail:

If your shutter is going to have a divider rail you will need to let us know if there are other windows in that room that will also have divider rails so we can be sure to have them placed at same height up from sill. If not, the rail height differences may be something that bothers you when viewed from inside or outside the home.

Although we do our best to make sure that the colors on our web site are accurate, actual colors will vary. Due to the fact that our products are all custom made, and can\'t be returned, you need to be sure that you can live with any color variations that are possible from our scanning of the actual samples. Also, most of our products use Color Coordinated Components. Color Coordinated means similar colors but not necessarily the same exact color. An exact match in color is not always possible for the components of the blind/shade. The color that best coordinates with the product\'s slat/fabric color will be chosen for use on the components. All components will not necessarily be of the same exact coordinated color. Some examples of color-coordinated component would be ladder strings, lift cords, tilter mechanisms, bottom rails, tassels, etc. If an exact color match is needed please email or call for a sample.

Warranty Information

Sonoma Shutters Inc. Lifetime Limited Warranty

Sonoma Shutters Inc. warrants that its shutters will be free from defects in materials and workmanship for as long as the original residential purchaser owns the product, provided that the product was installed properly and in accordance with the installation instructions. The limited lifetime warranty is extended to the original residential purchaser only, in the original window for which it was installed.

The warranty does not include any conditions or damages resulting from accidents, alterations, misuse, extraordinary use, misapplication, improper handling, improper installation, improper repairs, operation or cleaning, loss of color intensity or discoloration due to sunlight or the passage of time, exposure to salt air, damage from insects, or the yellowing and cracking of plastic parts with the passing of time. This warranty does not cover variation in color, grain, or texture in natural wood products nor excessive warping of wood slats in high humidity areas. Some slight warpage, as well as natural variations in color and grain effect, are normal with any wood product and are not considered defects. Over time some fading and/or discoloration of the finish may occur, common with man-made coatings. This is considered normal within industry specifications. br>
Sonoma Shutters Inc. considers these things as normal wear and tear and will carry a three year limited warranty.

This limited warranty does not cover transportation costs to and from the retailer, costs of removal, re-measure, or reinstallation of product, or any incidental or consequential damages.

If a Sonoma Shutters Inc. product is found to be defective in materials or workmanship, we will, at our discretion, repair, replace or refund the cost of a product which fails to conform to this limited warranty. Colors vary from lot to lot and may not exactly match sample swatch, sample book, or previous purchases. Discontinued components or color selections will be replaced with the closest equivalent current product. This shall be your sole remedy under this limited warranty.

To obtain service, contact the dealer from whom you purchased the product.

THIS WARRANTY IS EXCLUSIVE AND IN LIEU OF ALL OTHER OBLIGATIONS, LIABILITIES OR WARRANTIES. In no event shall or its licensed fabricators or distributors be liable for INCIDENTAL OR CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES, or for any other damage, loss or expense, cost or fee associated with such damage. In some states, exclusions for incidental or consequential damages are not allowable.

This warranty gives you specific legal rights, and you may also have other rights, which vary from state to state. Policy is subject to change without notice.

This limited warranty is exclusive of commercial use. No agent, representative, dealer or unauthorized employee has the authority to increase or alter the obligation of this warranty.

This limited warranty supersedes any previous versions.

Shipping Fees

UPS or FedEx Ground Shipping:
This applies to all orders under 96 inches in width or length shipping to an address in the contiguous 48 states of the U.S. If it travels by UPS or FedEx then shipping is FREE! Please call us for shipping quotes outside the covered area.

Sunscreens are not available for shipping outside the Metro Phoenix area.

Oversize Products Shipping Fee:
If your package is 96 inches or over in width or length it will be shipped by common carrier (semi truck) from the nearest manufacturing facility to you. There will be an oversize shipping charge for any order with products that are 96 inches or more in width or length. This charge is per manufacturer. Meaning if you order two oversized products and they are from two different manufacturers (two different brands) then there will be TWO charges for a total of 130.00 for shipping. But, if you have more than one product over 96 inches at it is from same manufacturer you will only pay one oversize fee. The fee is per order, not per blind.
