Textilene® Solar Screen fabric, manufactured by Twitchell, is designed to reduce heat transfer through windows by helping eliminate many of the sun's harmful rays. Solar Screen fabric not only reduces the heat, but plays an important role in glare reduction and provides daytime privacy. Solar Screens never directly contact the surface of the glass, allowing screens to stop heat before it reaches the glass.

The U.S. Dept. of Energy says in its 1994 study, that shading the outside exposed windows or doors is the best way to stop heat build up. The Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy Clearinghouse says that roughly 40% of heat build-up and heat loss is through windows and doors. External shading is the most effective home treatment to counter these effects. Shading the exposed windows and doors can reduce temperatures by as much as 20 degrees. Window shadings such as indoor window film or blinds or insulated drapes do not block, reflect, or absorb the solar rays before they pass through the glass. Some things to consider when deciding on screen colors and shading levels: Darker colored screens may allow a clearer view through the screen. This is simply because lighter colors catch your eye, darker colored screens tend to disappear and you see what lies beyond the screen. Tighter weave screens (Suntex 90) will noticeably shade your room The effect is similar to when a cloud blocks the sun, your view will "cool" and the sunlight coming into your room will be reduced. The effect with 80% screens is minimal, you still get moderate shading protection with almost the same sunlight illumination. Darker colored screens shade more effectively Tests have proven that darker colors are the most effective at blocking the sun. This is due to less light being reflected through the screen toward the glass. Darker colors are the most functional and the most popular, so I offer Black and Brown at the lowest price.
